Relationship Help – For Those With An Illness or Disability

Relationship Help
Has your illness wreaked havoc on your relationships?
You’re not alone.
I can’t count the number of posts from chronically ill people who abruptly end relationships–even with their families.
While fighting a chronic illness, can we really love others as ourselves?
When I’m in pain, is it possible to  “Pursue peace with all men. . .without which no one will see the Lord”? Hebrews 12:14.
Here’s a way:

1. Love Jesus More Than These

We demand love and kindness from those who have none to give. When Jesus rises in priority, our need for others’ love decreases. John 21:15

2. Find Friends Who Love Jesus & Emulate Them.

Just as Jesus found his mother, sister, and brother among those who obey and do the will of God, so should youMark 3:35Luke 8:21

3. Ask Your Father For Divine Love1.

Only through the Holy Spirit can others love us with all our problems and our love pour out on others who may return evil for good.
What does divine love do? Things that are not natural to us like:

• Prays & Gives Thanks For Difficult People.
• Puts People's Actions In The Best Light.
• Learns to Forgive Quickly & Absolutley.
• Honors Others As Better Than Yourself.
• Avoids Favorites.
• Feels compassion for those who sin against us.

4. Pray & Read The Proverbs Daily.

Every day we will encounter tough circumstances. So everyday I pray and read the proverbs to find the wisdom I need.

5. Worshiping In the Midst of Your Pain.

Relationships hurt and will continue to do so until we get to heaven. When we are in pain, worship of God will calm, soothe and heal. Job 1:20

6. Surrender.

Sometimes all we can or should do at that moment is to surrender the situation to God, especially if it’s stressful.

7. It’s Warfare…Are You Fighting The Wrong Enemy?

We don’t fight against flesh and blood but against:
  • principalities,
  • powers,
  • the rulers of the darkness of this age,
  • spiritual armies of wickedness in heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
Precious Remedies Against Satan's Schemes:

By causing saints to compare themselves to those to be worse than themselves: For rememdies, consider that:

1) to be quick sighted abroad and blind at home proves a man a hypocrite.
2) it is far better to compare our actions with the Word...
3) though our sins appear as great as those of others, yet without repentance responding to mercy, we shall be as certainly damned as others.

8. Reconciliation is Possible.

As Christ has reconciled us to the Father, we also have the work of reconciliation. That must be why the Lord always answers my prayers for reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:18

9. Other Resources

The books Peacemakers and Resolving Everyday Conflict by Ken Sande will help you create peace in your relationships.

“It matters how we treat people any kind of people….because they are made in the image of God– even in their sinfulness.”

A Fast You Can Do

Have you ever wondered if fasting could help you with your illness?  After all many fasts in the bible resulted in deliverance from impossible situations.

What to do when you constantly wake up during the night

As mentioned in a previous post, sleep is essential in order to recuperate from Lyme Disease. However, when I absolutely can't get to sleep, I have found that resting is the best alternative. Resting at night has helped me be able to have an active day, stay more alert, and just feel better. There are things that you must do or not do in order to allow your body to rest. Below are some suggestions to help you sleep or rest at night: 1.  Don't turn on electronics . This is my first temptation when I can't sleep. However, we have all read the articles about how electronics affect our sleep so I won't belabor the point. 2. Keep the lights off . Who knows you may be able to fall asleep after a while. If you must turn them on, use a night light or turn them on temporarily. 3. Drink water and/or eat a light snack. I only do this if I find I am extremely thirsty. Be sure not to drink too much water at night or you will end up in the bathroom all night. I have found that ...

The Holidays Made Easy and Stress-free (for those with a chronic illness)

The onset of the holidays can be a particularly stressful time of the year for those with an illness or disability. The amount of energy needed for all the tasks involved keeps increasing every year, while our own strength keeps diminishing.  However, there are ways to make the holidays easier and stress-free.   Focus on God    When I focus my life on Jesus and obeying Him, things take their proper place. Peace is restored and life becomes easier again ( Matthew 11:28-30 ). During the holidays, take the focus off the food, gifts, entertaining and decorating and put it back on Jesus. Below are a few easy ideas to put this into practice: Spend (uninterrupted) time praying and in the bible (pray the bible) Pray about your holiday plans and any anxieties Sign up for a  Thanksgiving  (or Christmas)  Devotional Play and Sing Hymns and similar music Give thanks for the simple things in life Invite Christ to be your honored guest in a...
